  1. Red Leaf Grain Amaranth Vegetable Seeds - West Coast Seeds - MU519

Amaranthus tricolor. Also known as Chinese spinach. This heat lover is a very nutritious leaf vegetable. This variety has large, fleshy, pale-green or burgundy and green leaves that can be enjoyed raw in salads. They can also be cooked quickly, faster than spinach. Plant Red Leaf amaranth seeds in early summer in warm soil with good drainage. Enjoy as micro-greens, baby leaf salad greens, or full size cooked greens. The flavour pairs well with garlic and oyster sauce. The plants reach about waist high before flowering in late summer. Be sure to harvest before the flowering stage for the best flavour.

  2. Cat Grass

Also known as Cocksfoot, Cat Grass can handle both low light and drought conditions so it makes a very nice indoor plant that is also safe for pets--cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs like to nibble it. It is highly palatable to animals and it is often used as forage in pastures. It can be grown in your garden and in xeriscaping designs as well because it is also the food plant of choice for many butterfly caterpillars and other pollinators. When grown for pets, use a heavy low container filled 3/4 full of potting soil to make it harder to topple the pot. Cat Grass is an attractive, easy to grow animal-friendly plant.

  3. Rover F1

Adaptable round red radish with consistent performance spring through fall. Rover maintains its globe shape, crispy texture, and mild flavour through the heat of the summer. Uniform, dark red roots cut to clean, bright white interior. Our most reliable variety.

  4. Aji Rico

Aji is a standard pepper throughout South America. One of the reasons it is not well known here is its slow growth and heat demands. Aji Rico really shows the best of what can be achieved through hybrid plant breeding. Compared to many of the open-pollinated heirloom peppers, it boasts faster maturity, better vigour, and higher yields. The tasty pods are medium hot, maturing to full size as green chilies in 50-55 days. Add another twenty days for mature red pods, and the sweet, full-bodied flavour that comes with them. The fruits average 8-10cm (3-4") long, with thin walls and a conical shape. The plants are large in stature at 76-91cm (30-36") tall, so they benefit from staking or a trellis. These AAS Award-winning peppers retain their floral, citrus flavour in cooking, and the heat level can be reduced by removing the seeds and pith. 500-1,000 SHUs.

  5. New Red Fire Certified Organic

An all-season medium to large red leaf that performs well through the summer. New Red Fire produces uniform, heavy heads of ruffled, dark pink leaves with just a peak of green at the base. Slow, steady growth in the heat without bolting. A great organic option if you'd like a classic, red leaf lettuce.

  6. Rosa Bianca OP Certified Organic

This delectable Italian heirloom eggplant is known for its beauty as well as its culinary features. The plump, 10-15cm (4-6") fruits are globular and bi-coloured in a gradient. Like a work of art, their ivory canvases are covered in broad, violet/purple brushstrokes. The mildly sweet flesh is meaty, with no bitterness. Plants are more productive when overnight temperatures are warmer. They have tall stems but plants are fairly compact relative to fruit size. Delicious stewed, grilled, or stuffed.
