Can outdoor structures withstand heavy Canadian snow loads?
Snow load resistance by structure type:
- Steel carports/garages (Arrow, ShelterLogic): Galvanized steel handles significant snow. Peak-roof models shed snow better than round-roof. ShelterTube models are specifically wind and snow-load rated.
- Hardtop gazebos (Sojag Dakota, Genova): Galvanized steel or polycarbonate roofs handle moderate snow accumulation. Clear heavy snow (>20 cm) to prevent stress.
- Fabric-roof structures: Remove fabric covers before winter. The frame can remain standing.
- Solariums (Gazebo Penguin, Sojag Korado): Polycarbonate panels handle light to moderate snow. Clear heavy accumulation.
General rule: clear snow promptly when accumulation exceeds 15-20 cm. Don't let snow build up on one side — uneven loads cause more damage than distributed weight.
