How do I maintain PVC deck boards?
PVC deck board maintenance is minimal compared to wood:
- Regular sweeping: Remove leaves and debris to prevent staining from tannins
- Seasonal cleaning: Soap and warm water with a soft brush 2-3 times per year. A pressure washer on low setting (under 1,500 PSI) also works
- Stain removal: For grease/oil: dish soap applied directly. For mildew: vinegar or commercial deck cleaner
- Snow removal: Use a plastic shovel or snow blower. Avoid metal shovels that can scratch the surface
- No finishing needed: Never stain, seal, paint, or sand PVC boards — they're engineered with built-in UV protection and colour throughout
