Can PVC decking be installed in cold weather?

PVC decking can be installed year-round in Canada with these cold-weather adjustments:

• Expansion gaps: Leave 3/16" gaps between boards (vs. 1/8" in warm weather) to allow for summer expansion
• End gaps: Leave 1/4" at each end against walls or obstacles
• Storage: Let boards acclimate to outdoor temperature for 24 hours before installation
• Cutting: PVC may be slightly more brittle in extreme cold — use fine-tooth blades and support the board near the cut

The boards will expand slightly in summer heat, which is why proper gapping during cold-weather installation is important.
