How do I dispose of or recycle an old outdoor structure?
Disposal and recycling guide:
- Steel frame and panels (Arrow, ShelterLogic): 100% recyclable. Take disassembled steel to your local scrap metal recycler — they may even pay you for the weight.
- Aluminum frame (Sojag, Gazebo Penguin): Highly valuable recycling material. Scrap yards typically pay $0.50-$1.00/lb for clean aluminum.
- Polyethylene covers: Not commonly recyclable in curbside programs. Check with your local waste facility for industrial plastic recycling.
- Polycarbonate panels: Some recycling centres accept them. Check for PC or recycling code #7 on the panel.
- Hardware (bolts, screws): Collect in a container and bring to metal recycling.
Many municipalities have annual large-item pickup days that accept disassembled outdoor structures.
