How do I prepare my yard for an outdoor structure installation?

Site preparation steps:

1. Choose location: Select a level area with good drainage, away from overhanging trees and utility lines
2. Clear the area: Remove grass, weeds, rocks, and debris. Clear 3 feet beyond the structure footprint.
3. Level the ground: Use a long level (or string level) to check for slopes. Grade or fill as needed. A 1-2% slope away from the center helps drainage.
4. Prepare foundation:
   • Concrete pad (best for permanent structures): 4" thick minimum, reinforced with rebar or wire mesh
   • Compacted gravel (good for sheds/carports): 4-6" of compacted 3/4" crushed stone
   • Patio pavers (good for gazebos): Level base with polymeric sand joints
   • Existing deck: Verify it can support the structure weight plus snow/wind loads
