Gazebo Penguin Car Shelters & Winter Car Shelters

A winter car shelter keeps snow, ice and freezing rain off your car, truck or SUV for a fraction of the cost of a garage. IPATIO carries the shelters Canadians actually buy: ShelterLogic AutoShelter and Garage-in-a-Box for one vehicle, ShelterCoat round, peak and barn units from 8x8 to 13x28 ft, Sojag Everest steel garages, and Gazebo Penguin single and double car shelters. Every frame is galvanized steel; the covers are UV-treated polyethylene made to shed snow.

Choose by size

  • 10 x 20 ft — one car or a small SUV (AutoShelter, Garage-in-a-Box)
  • 12 x 20 ft — pickups and SUVs, with room to open the doors
  • 13 x 20 ft and 12 x 24 ft — full-size trucks, or a car plus a snowblower
  • 12 x 28 and 13 x 28 ft — two vehicles in line, or a boat on its trailer

Need a permanent steel structure instead? See our carports and portable garages, and read the winter car shelter guide before you choose.

Car shelter FAQ

Do I need a permit for a temporary car shelter?

Most Canadian municipalities allow a temporary car shelter without a permit during winter only — typically from mid-October to mid-April — with rules on setbacks and the distance from the street. Dates and setbacks vary from one municipality to the next, so check your local bylaw before you install.

Will it hold up to Canadian snow?

ShelterLogic's wind-and-snow-rated ShelterCoat frames and the Sojag Everest are engineered for winter loads; AutoShelter and Garage-in-a-Box are lighter single-car units. Whatever the model, brush heavy snow off the cover after a storm and keep the frame tensioned and anchored.

How is a car shelter anchored?

ShelterLogic shelters include auger anchors for soil and gravel. On asphalt or concrete, use a permanent anchor kit or weighted anchors so the frame cannot lift in a winter wind.

How long does setup take?

Two people can assemble a single-car shelter in an afternoon with basic tools; the largest ShelterCoat units take a day. Every shelter ships flat, with free shipping on most orders over $88*.

The range also includes the Yosemite and Venus gazebos, the Vikos pergola, winter car shelters and portable garages, all shipped across Canada; series and sizes are summarised at the bottom of this page.

Gazebo Penguin FAQ

Is a Gazebo Penguin Florence solarium a four-season room?

No. The Florence is a three-season solarium: an aluminum-frame enclosure with a galvanized-steel or polycarbonate roof and screened or PVC-window walls. It keeps rain, wind and insects out from spring to fall, but it is not insulated or heated for winter.

Which sizes do Gazebo Penguin solariums come in?

Sizes listed at IPATIO: 8x12, 11x10, 10x12, 8x16, 12x12, 11x14, 10x16, 12x15, 12x18. The Florence is available wall-mounted or freestanding; the Myrdal is freestanding and listed in 11x10 and 11x14.

Should I choose a wall-mounted or a freestanding solarium?

A wall-mounted solarium bolts to the house, usually around a patio door, and uses the house wall as its fourth side; a freestanding one stands anywhere on a deck or patio. Attached structures are often treated differently by municipalities, so check your local bylaw before ordering.

Does Gazebo Penguin make gazebos and pergolas?

Yes: the Yosemite gazebo (10x10, 10x12 and 12x16), the Venus gazebo (12x14 and 12x16) and the Vikos pergola (10x10 and 10x13).
