What foundation does a steel carport need?
Steel carports require a solid, level foundation for proper installation and longevity:
- Concrete pad (recommended): Pour a pad at least 4 inches thick, slightly larger than the carport footprint. Use the included anchor bolts to secure the frame.
- Compacted gravel: Level and compact a gravel base, then use ground anchors (sold separately for some models).
- Asphalt driveway: Can be used with appropriate anchoring hardware.
Ensure proper drainage by grading the surface slightly away from the center. For 20'+ carports, consult local building codes for permit requirements.
