Carport FAQ

A carport, a portable garage or a car shelter?

A carport is the open-sided, permanent choice: an Arrow steel carport stays up all year and doubles as a covered patio in summer. A portable garage is enclosed and lockable, so it also stores what you would keep in a shed. A car shelter is the seasonal option — cheapest of the three, up in October and down in spring.

Do I need a permit for a carport?

A permanent carport is normally treated as an accessory structure: most municipalities set a maximum size, side and rear setbacks, and sometimes a permit. Rules differ from those for temporary winter shelters, so check your bylaw before you order.

Can a steel carport handle Canadian snow?

Arrow carports are engineered for snow and wind, and the metal roof sheds snow better than fabric. Anchor the posts as instructed, use the optional enclosure or side panels if you want more protection, and clear unusual accumulations after major storms.

How is a carport delivered and installed?

Carports ship flat in cartons. They ship by freight carrier: most carriers deliver to the curb by default and, when they offer that service, contact you to book a delivery appointment. Delivery takes about 3–15 business days from your order, depending on the distance (an estimate). Remote areas, islands and the territories can take longer. Two people with a drill and a level can assemble a single carport in a day on a level base of concrete, pavers or compacted gravel.

What size carport do I need?

Start from the width, not the length: 10 ft is one car parked carefully, 12 ft is one vehicle with the doors usable, 20 ft is two abreast. Then add about 3 ft of length beyond the vehicle so the roof covers the tailgate. Sizes in the range: 10' x 15', 11' x 16', 10' x 20', 12' x 20', 10' x 24', 14' x 20', 12' x 24', 10' x 29', 14' x 24', 12' x 29', 20' x 20', 14' x 29', 14' x 33', 20' x 24', 14' x 38', 20' x 29', 14' x 42', 14' x 47', 14' x 51'.

Free shipping on most orders over C$88 — conditions in our Shipping Policy. Large items ship by freight carrier — see Freight delivery.
