12x28 Portable Garages & Boat Shelters

A 12 x 28 ft portable garage is the length you need when the vehicle comes with a trailer: a boat on its trailer, tongue and motor included, a utility or tent trailer, snowmobiles on a double sled trailer, or a long pickup with room to work behind it. Every model is a ShelterLogic ShelterCoat, a powder-coated steel frame under a heat-welded, waterproof polyethylene cover, in gray or green, with three roofs: round, rated for 90 mph winds and a 40 lb per sq ft snow load; peak; and barn, 9 ft or 11 ft tall on a 2 in frame.

For a boat, height matters as much as length. The Barn 11 ft stands 10′10″ tall with a 103 in door opening; the Barn 9 ft door is 80 in and the Round 81 in. Measure the boat on its trailer, windshield, top or T-top included, before you choose, and note that no model here takes a motorhome. Inside, every model is between 27′7″ and 27′9″ long. Will my boat fit?

Check three numbers against the product page. Length: a boat and trailer up to about 26 ft overall fits inside, which is 27′9″ deep in the barn. Width: the barn is 11′8″ wide inside. Height: the Barn 11 ft door opens to 103 in (8 ft 7 in), so measure from the ground to the highest point of the boat on its trailer.

Can it shelter an RV or travel trailer?

Not a motorhome or a full-height travel trailer: those stand 10 to 12 ft tall, above every door here. It suits a tent trailer, a small teardrop or a utility trailer whose height clears the door. For bigger RVs a taller, wider shelter is needed.

Which roof should I choose?

The round roof sheds snow on its own and is the only one with a published rating (90 mph winds, 40 psf snow). The barn roof is the tallest and stays high close to the walls, the one for boats with a windshield or tower. The peak roof is the lowest-profile option.

How do I anchor it for winter?

ShelterLogic recommends one anchor per leg; the steel foot plates fix to ground anchors, concrete or a pony wall, and a 28 ft cover catches a lot of wind, so do not skip any.
