8x10 Sheds

An 8 x 10 ft shed is the most popular size, because it is where most Canadian yards end up: two machines side by side (a snowblower and a mower), bikes, and shelving on two walls. At 80 sq ft it also stays under the floor area that many municipalities exempt from a permit. Arrow lists it as 10x8: 10 ft wide at the doors, 8 ft deep. The Classic has 6′3″ of headroom at the peak; the Select and Elite about 7′5″, and the Elite is Galvalume steel with a 15-year warranty. The EZEE Shed has an extra-high gable, 8′1″ at the peak, and snap-together panels that need half the hardware. The Resin Series 8x10 is moulded resin with its own floor and two windows. Is a 10x8 the same as an 8x10?

Yes, the same footprint named from a different side. Arrow names its sheds width first, so an Arrow 10x8 is 10 ft across the door wall and 8 ft deep: the Classic 10x8 measures 10′3″ wide and 7′11″ deep outside. The Resin Series 8x10 is the other way round, narrow at the doors and deep.

How much room is inside?

The Classic 10x8 is 9′10″ wide by 7′6″ deep inside. The Elite is a little deeper at 7′10″, with 72 in. walls, and the Resin Series 8x10 is 6′9″ by 8′9″.

Which floor do I need?

Steel sheds come without a floor. The Classic and Select 10x8 take the Arrow floor frame kit, the Elite 10x8 its own Elite frame and the EZEE the EZEE floor frame. Set the frame on a level gravel pad, or bolt the shed straight to a concrete slab. The Resin Series has a reinforced floor built in.

Do I need a permit, and how is it anchored?

At 80 sq ft an 8 x 10 is under the permit threshold in many Canadian municipalities, but not all, and setbacks from the lot line apply at any size, so check your bylaw. Anchor every steel shed: the concrete anchor kit for a slab or the earth anchor kit for soil. An empty steel shed is light enough to shift in a strong wind.
