8x8 Sheds

An 8 x 8 ft shed is square, so it holds the awkward things a 6 x 8 won't: a snowblower and a mower side by side, bikes, a wheelbarrow and a wall of shelving, with a path down the middle. In this size the builds are very different, from a fabric cover on a steel frame to galvanized steel.

The ShelterLogic Shed-in-a-Box and the Scotts storage shed are a powder-coated steel frame under a waterproof polyethylene cover: the cheapest way to cover 64 sq ft, with a 1-year warranty. The Arrow Classic and Select are galvanized steel with a 12-year warranty; the Select has 7′6″ of headroom at the peak against the Classic's 6′. The Ironwood kit is the steel frame and roof of a wood-look shed; the wood panelling is bought separately. Sizes either side: 6x8 and 8x10.

Fabric or steel for an 8x8?

A fabric shed costs about half as much as the Arrow Classic or less, and goes up faster, but the cover is the part that ages and the warranty is one year. Steel takes longer to assemble, locks, and carries a 12-year warranty. For a shed that stays put for a decade, choose steel.

What is the Ironwood kit?

A hybrid: Arrow supplies the galvanized-steel frame, roof and hardware, and you fit wood panelling of your choice to the walls. The panelling is not included, so budget for it and for the time to cut it.

How big is it inside?

The Arrow Classic 8x8 is 7′11″ by 7′6″ inside with 6′ at the peak; the Shed-in-a-Box 8x8 is 7′10″ by 7′9″ with 7′11″ at the peak.

Which floor and anchors?

The Classic and Select 8x8 take the Arrow floor frame kit on a level gravel pad, or bolt to a concrete slab. Anchor any 8x8 against wind with the earth anchor kit on soil or the concrete anchor kit on a slab. At 64 sq ft it is under the permit threshold in many municipalities; setbacks still apply.
